Spelman College Observes Season of Lent
In observance of the Lenten season, the Spelman College department of music will host a series of mini-organ recitals in Sisters Chapel on Wednesdays from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Featuring College Organist Dr. Joyce Johnson and five local guest organists, the series begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17, from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m., with Morehouse College Organist Dr. David Oliver.
Named one of Morehouse College’s "institutions," Dr. Oliver has performed in the Lincoln and Kennedy Centers for the Performing Arts. His European performances have included Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, Grossmunster in Zurich, the Maurice Ravel Auditorium in Lyon, France; and the Temple Church in London.
A period of 40 weekdays lasting from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, Lent is observed as a time of penance and fasting commemorating Jesus' fasting in the wilderness. The Spelman community is encouraged to attend.
